A historic moment as Houlton School celebrates its first GCSE results
Five years after walking through the doors as the first Year 7 intake, students at Houlton School have collected the school's first-ever GCSE results today, marking a historic moment for the school community.
There was a huge sense of pride as staff joined students and their families to celebrate all of their achievements throughout their time at Houlton. In this inaugural GCSE year, almost three quarters of students achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics, with over a fifth of students achieving the very top grades (9-7) in English.
Lorna Pountney, Head of School, said: “As the founding cohort of our school, these incredible students have made history today.
“They have worked so hard and approached every challenge with determination and positivity, and we are so proud of all they have accomplished.
“We are thrilled that so many of our students will be returning in September to join our brand-new sixth form offer. I’ve no doubt these brilliant young people will continue to inspire those following in their footsteps.”
Among those celebrating was Loic Foskolos who achieved an impressive set of grades. He said: “I’m really happy with my results. It’s been brilliant to be here from the very start of the school, it’s quite unique and we’ve had so many different opportunities, I particularly liked being part of the public speaking team.”
The school are also particularly proud of Megan Cooke, who has been supported in her studies while going through significant personal challenges. Megan said: “I passed pretty much all of my exams, I even got a 6 in History as well as a couple of grade 5s. The support I’ve received here has actually been incredible, the school have put so much in place for me it has made such a difference for me.”
Sohana Dhinsa was delighted with her results after securing some fantastic results. She said: “I’m so pleased, I got the results I needed for next year. I’m going to celebrate with my friends and family.”
David Binoy achieved a number of Grade 8s and 9s and will shortly be starting his sixth form studies at Houlton. He said: “This is a proud moment as one of the very first students here and I can’t wait to start sixth form.”
Cousins Cassan Mortimore-Lea and Harry Mortimore collected their results together today. Harry said: “It’s been great being here at Houlton with my cousin and going through school together. I’m pleased with my results and looking forward to studying here next year.”
Helen Stevenson, CEO at Transforming Lives Educational Trust (TLET), which runs the school, added: “2026 is a really special year for Houlton and our wider TLET family.
“Not only have Houlton’s very first students celebrated their amazing GCSE results, but in September the school will officially welcome its inaugural Reception pupils and Year 12 students as part of Houlton School’s brand-new primary and sixth form offers.
“We are delighted to be embarking on another exciting new chapter for the whole Houlton community.”
