Henry Hinde Consultation
Consultation launched into changing the age range of HHJS to support the merger of the Infant and Junior School
The Transforming Lives Educational Trust (TLET) has launched a consultation to bring Henry Hinde Infant and Henry Hinde Junior School together on one site.
Currently the two schools are 300 yards apart, and already share leaders, curriculums and approaches. They are also both part of Transforming Lives Educational Trust, and many parents already have to go to both schools at the start/end of the school day.
Our proposal is to:
- Bring the children together at the Junior School on Cornwallis Road from September 2026
- To support this the admissions number into Reception will be 30 children each year.
- As we will formally be bringing the two schools into one, the age range of the Junior School site will move from Years 3 – 6 to Reception to Year 6.
- Invest significantly in the buildings at HHJS so there is age-appropriate learning and play spaces.
This is an important development for our school. It will enable us to continue to develop the shared ethos and approaches that have been strengthening over recent years – helping us to do more to support every child.
While the “big picture” makes educational and financial sense, we are deeply aware that families build their lives around things like how they get their children to school. Decisions like this can have consequences on other aspects of your lives, and we want to spend the next 12 months working with you to look at how best we make this move work for our children, our staff and our families.
We hope this consultation starts the beginning of a detailed conversation with you about how we can make this move work for our whole community.
We would ask you to let us know your thoughts, and respond to our consultation by sending your comments to consultation@tlet.org.uk by close of business on Friday 3rd October 2025.
We also look forward to holding meetings where you can ask questions, share any concerns, and find out more about what this exciting change will mean for your children.
FAQs
Why are the infant and junior schools merging?
The merger is intended to create a more seamless educational experience for children aged 4 to 11. It can improve continuity in learning, strengthen leadership, streamline transitions between key stages, and ensure better use of resources.
Will I be guaranteed a place in the juniors if my child attends the infants?
Essentially the school will be one school incorporating several phases of education. That means that, should they want it, a child joining in Reception will have a place at the school until the end of Year 6.
When will the merger happen?
The proposed merger is set to take place from September 2026, pending consultation and approval from the local authority/governing bodies.
Will the school have a new name?
No, that is not the plan.
Will the curriculum change?
The curriculum will remain in line with the national curriculum, but the merger may allow for some changes to allow for better curriculum planning and consistency across year groups.
Will uniforms change?
There may be a change to the uniform to save parents money in the longer term as children move from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. However, any changes will be phased in and support will be given to families as needed.
