Children and staff from Henry Hinde Junior School in Bilton, marked this year’s World Book Day by wearing their pyjamas in order to promote bedtime stories or by dressing up as their favourite book characters.

During an assembly, led by teacher, Mr Baird, pupils were also delighted to receive their very own bookmarks to encourage reading for pleasure at home.

Pupils and their parents will now take part in a home reading challenge, which will lead to pupils gaining stickers for their bookmarks, culminating in a prize for completing the challenge.

Rachael Allen, Principal at Henry Hinde Junior School, said: “Every year we mark World Book Day with a series of fun and engaging events for our pupils. This is, however, more than just one day of celebrations, we want to encourage a lifelong love for reading.

“Through reading for pleasure at home and reading together as a family, we hope the children are inspired to discover the magic of books.”
